The Smartphone Diet: Begone Stodgy Sandwiches!

Ham and cheese sandwich for lunch. Every day. With my stomach’s future looking so dim, you can’t blame me for dreading going back to school. Although it’s important to prepare a healthy yet edible lunch, it’s also a challenging feat. Which is why I’m going to share some simple back-to-school lunchbox ideas with you.

First up are savory muffins. Muffins are quick and easy to make. Chances are, you already make ones that are sweet, like chocolate chip muffins. Well, next time you’re about to whip up a batch of muffins, consider changing the fillings to spinach and cheese or zucchini and bacon. These can be stored in the fridge, so if you’re everrunning behind in the morning, just pop two muffins into a box and they’ll be the perfect lunch.

The second idea has less to do with food and more with its visual presentation. The arrangement of food can affect a person’s perception of the food and hence one’s appetite. We all know Japan is famous for their elaborate bento art, but busy parents can make a lunch box more interesting without spending that much time. How? With cupcake liners! The liners also act as portion controls. Below we have a tuna salad sandwich surrounded by fruit skewers, some berries, and mini Oreos. Cute and yum!

No more peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Pinky promise?
